Joan Chamorro presenta Rita Payés

Rita Payés (14-15 years old, while recording) is a trombonist and singer, but above all she is a musician, in every sense of the word, and a great person. She is the protagonist of this fourth album in the Joan Chamorro presenta series.

She joined the Sant Andreu Jazz Band only a year ago, and I will never forget the emotion I felt when I heard her sing Stars fell on Alabama for the first time (released as part of this album), with a very personal voice, sometimes sharp, sometimes broken, nuanced, perfectly intoned and rich in rhythmic contribution.

Moreover, as a trombonist she has a clear, round, very direct sound. Her personality, her attitude, her seriousness, her joy... There are no gimmicks, no shadows of ego, no mannerisms. Her simplicity, together with her quality and her musical magic make her, already now, a great artist.

On this album, as usual, I have Ignasi Terrassa, Josep Traver and Esteve Pi. Andrea Motis contributes some vocal duets and her trumpet. We have also been able to count on Scott Hamilton, Scott Robinson and Dick Oatts on saxophones, and Toni Belenguer, among other great musicians.
