Descripción
"Coses que es diuen però que no es fan" (Things that are said but not done) is the title of the album by Andrea Motis, Joan Chamorro and The New Catalan Ensemble: a new formation. A group that incorporates the timbre of the solo instruments of the Catalan cobla, with which Andrea Motis sings for the first time a selection of poems by key authors in contemporary Catalan literature: from classics chosen by herself such as the poem 'Tot l'enyor de demà', by Joan Salvat-Papasseit to Gabriel Ferrater (of whom she sings the poem 'Kore') or Joan Vinyoli ('Sol'), whose birth centenary is commemorated this year.
The project includes unquestionable poets such as Joan Margarit ('Hotel Marriott', from the award-winning 'Casa de Misericordia'), the Tarragona-born Montserrat Abelló ('Aquest teu aire suau', the only song performed as a quintet with Chamorro on double bass and Enrique Ortí on tenora as soloist), and the renowned Enric Casasses ('Sastre de rec'), Manuel Forcano ('Gol') and the Mallorcan Sebastià Alzamora, whose poem gives the album its title (taken from the collection of poems 'La part visible', winner of the 2008 Carles Riba Prize).
The album is completed with some well-known jazz standards that, due to the ensemble's instrumentation, take on a new life: 'The Nearness of You', which opens the album, 'Summertime' and Jobim's classic, 'Corcovado', are some of the best-known jazz standards on the album.
